Samorn and his brother Samet are in nursing and law school respectively. Sakka Foundation has supported their tuition and some living expenses for the past two years. In return, Samorn and Samet volunteer their time at Dr Annie’s medical clinic! Dr. Annie’s team there help to provide both boys with experience, while they have a chance to give back. (Sakka supports the salary of one of Dr Annie’s dentists and overall is working together to find ways to continue to support more of Dr Annie’s incredible network of medical projects in/around Phnom Penh). Here’s what’s happening in Samorn’s life: "How are you. I hope you are doing well. I am fine. In Cambodia, Khmer New Year is a three day holiday. I went to visit my home town in Takeo Province. I am happy to visit there, because I saw my grandmother and my godmother and brothers. During Khmer New Year, people in Cambodia go to the pagoda and most people go to visit their families. The first day of Khmer New Year I went to visit Wat Opot. I visited my brothers and the other children and some of the foreigners staying there, too. Right now I just started a new semester. I started a new course on pharmaceuticals and other course on communicable diseases. I will have five new teachers. Yesterday we didn't study. We just met the teachers, got ID cards, and other things to get started. Then today I was sick, because I ate something bad, so I couldn't go to school. For my next update I will write a lot about my life at school. At One-2-One, my brother and I went to a meeting and then we went to a clinic. This week I saw 29 patients. We are both happy to work there. Thank you. When I have the results from my test I will send them to you. Sakka Foundation members voted and confirmed the sponsorship of the cost of salary of two teachers, Srey Roth and Prak Tith Rany. Empowering Youth of Cambodia (EYC) http://eycambodia.org/blog/ is a group of incredible individuals in Phnom Penh that have established free schools in extremely poor slum communities in Phnom Penh. Children living in these communities can attend these schools and learn both English and Computer skills without cost. In addition they provide free health care services for the community. There are currently 3 schools established. The project is quite grassroots, even now, and small in scale. The schools were set up by Drew McDowell, and now managed by local Cambodian teachers and students. Drew focuses on leadership training. Several of their students have now gone on to earn college scholarships. Sakka Foundation works with Drew regularly. The partnership works so well because of our strong communication and the personal nature of our knowing exactly how Drew and his team utilize funds – and make the most out of every penny! The quality of the teachers and the education available at Drew’s schools impresses us every visit we make to Cambodia. We are really proud to support these incredible teachers and the team at EYC. Reth Sothearot: (School Manager / English Teacher @Aziza school ) Prak Tithrany: ( English teacher @ Aziza school ) The sponsorship is USD 125 per month, for 2 teachers, total USD 250 per month. We send the funds quarterly, USD 750 each time. click here to Donate email us @ sakkafoundation@yahoo.com 2011 Sakka Foundation Summer Clothing Sale! 07/19/2011

We had a very productive trip to Cambodia in November, and we have brought back quite a bit of photos! The first ever Sakka Olympics were held at Who Will Children's Community during that visit and we also took the liberty of visiting another project called the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF) which is funded by the film producer Scott Neeson.
