Projects we are supporting in 2011...
Sakka Foundation donors are supporting several different projects in year 2011.
Our target is to donate over USD 50,000 to these projects in year 2011.
General Caretaking: Children's Communities/Orphanages
Two of our projects help to support children who are unable to live with their primary caretakers. These children live together in children's communities where they are given shelter, medical, educational, and nutritional support. These children are mainly economic orphans, and some have lost one or both of their parents due to AIDs. Approximately 20% have HIV virus themselves.
Education: Schools & University Education
One of our projects provides free educational opportunities to children who live in seriously impoverished communities (slum communities) in/around Phnom Penh. In addition, we will continue to sponsor Samorn and Samet, our University students in nursing and law school. Samorn and Samet are brothers, whose family was orphaned due to AIDs virus. They are the first of their children's community to qualify for University Education and are setting an example for their community.
Medical: Dental and Medical Preventative care:
In 2011 we began a sponsorship of dental and medical preventative care in conjunction with a group of dentists and doctors working in Phnom Penh area. We will start with a sponsorship for 6 months salary for a dentist to provide free dental care to seriously underpriviledged children and families whom otherwise would not receive any care whatsoever.
Sustainability:
Sakka donors have just funded USD 7,000 towards the set up of electricity at one of our orphanage projects. We are working together with University of Science and Technology professors to provide a solar power solution for Who Will Children's village. In addition, Sakka has funded a garden of trees and grass for shade and food source at Who Will.
Local Emergency Relief Fund (Local Emergency Relief)
Sakka Foundation is happy to announce the additional of an emergency relief fund in year 2011. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support and relief in Hong Kong and mainland China in the case of serious natural or other disasters. These funds are available to be activated at the time a disaster occurs for immediate relief.
Our target is to donate over USD 50,000 to these projects in year 2011.
