"A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history." Mahatma Ghandi
How Sakka Started:In January 2009, Cathey Curtis and Rachael Jones visited Wat Opot Children’s Community outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After spending time with the children and inspired by the commitment of Wayne who runs the orphanage, Cathey and Rachael returned to Hong Kong and partnered with Aggie Gallagher to hold a fundraiser for Wat Opot. They raised over US$5,000, 100% of which was donated to the orphanage.
Realizing that the success of the event lay in the transparency of their approach - donors could see first hand where 100% of their contribution was going and how the children were going to be helped – Cathey, Aggie and Rachael joined forces with Carolyn Chau and launched The Sakka Foundation based on the principles of financial efficiency and transparency. Focusing on improving the health and education of children in Southeast Asia, they further partnered with highly motivated university students, and using their business, marketing and legal skills, they created a foundation where teaching social responsibility is a core value. |
Sakka Foundation is run and fully managed by volunteers. We have no overhead costs, no advertising costs or other expenses. Therefore 100% of the donation goes directly to children in need.

The principles that guide us...
Cathey, Jack and Eugene, along with the other founders, Aggie, Rachael, Carolyn, Elisa and Cherry are a a team of like-minded business professionals who care.
We came together with a single goal - to help children in Southeast Asia to break the cycle of poverty and illness.
We believe that all children should have access to basic education and health care.
We believe in instilling a philanthropic spirit in the youth of today and therefore aim to create a movement of inspired young people to take action and help us achieve the goals of our organization.
In addition Sakka carefully screens the projects we work with, know the management personally, and have a rigorous selection process. Therefore we can guarantee that 100% of your donations will go directly to the children in need.
By collaborating with projects where we personally know the management on the ground and which we have chosen based on rigorous selection criteria, you can be sure that your donation will support long-term sustainable projects. Projects must be financially efficient and transparent. Donors have the opportunity to visit the projects and see firsthand the impact that donations have had on children’s health and education.
In addition, our operating model ensures that your donation will never be spent on advertising, fundraising, executive travel or overhead costs. We fund our administrative costs ourselves and with unrestricted grants from private and public donors, thereby committing to investing 100% of your donations directly to those in need
Sakka Foundation is a non-profit organization registered in Hong Kong SAR.
